Families...Working Together To Work

Beckmann and Associates is proud to present an exciting opportunity to include your loved ones in your rehabilitation and return to work.

Families… WORKING TOGETHER TO WORK is an innovative program supported by WorkCover SA under the Return To Work Fund to contribute to the improved return of injured workers to work.

The program is offered to injured workers who have experienced a workplace injury in the last 6 months and who have yet to enjoy a full or significant return to work.

Families….Working Together to Work provides you and your immediate family access to 2 family counselling sessions.  This will address any concerns you have about the workers compensation scheme, your rehabilitation and return to work expectations, and how your family can support your return to work.

One of the most influential predictors of an injured workers success in rehabilitation is the influence, support and behavioural encouragement of family members. This program will allow you to better set goals for the future and develop a family strategy of involvement and encouragement.

The family counselling sessions are undertaken in the participants home environment so there is no need to go anywhere or do anything. Each session is 1 hour duration and will be structured using a variety of counselling techniques. Participants will be required to answer some short questionnaires regarding their understanding of the SA Workers Compensation scheme, their expectations and any successes in return to work (these will remain confidential). The 2 sessions will be separated by a minimum of 6 weeks allowing the worker and his/her family the opportunity to reflect and undertake some of the action items developed.

At 3, 6 and 12 mths following the 2nd and final counselling session the injured worker will be contacted by phone to gauge whether he/she has made a return to work and if so, to what degree and what benefit (if any) you felt the program had on your return to work.

So how do I get involved ?

We are looking for participants who answer YES to all these questions....

  • Have you had a workplace injury in the last 6 mths?
  • Are you currently unfit for work or fit for less than 8 hrs per week?.
  • Has your capacity or (lack of) been the same for the last 3 mths?
  • Do you and your significant other/ family member have sound English comprehension and speaking ability?
  • Are you prepared to be contacted via phone 3, 6 and 12 mths following the counselling sessions for a short review of your return to work status?

If you would like to be involved in this innovative and exciting program which enables a different approach to your recovery please contact Suzanne Bell - Project Manager on 82925300 or s.bell@beckmann.net.au

Common Questions

Q) So, how is this program different to the support already available to me?

A) Under the legislation, your family does not automatically receive assistance or a chance to formally participate at this level. Our program acknowledges your family’s importance in your recovery.

Q) May I continue with my current rehabilitation plan?

A) YES- this program does not interfere with your current obligations to participate in a rehabilitation plan.

Q) Can I still participate in the 2nd family counselling session, even if I have returned to work?

A) YES

Q) I would like to participate with my family but would prefer not to do this in my home,

are there any other options available?

A) YES- your family counselling sessions may be undertaken at one of our offices.

Q) What degree of participation is required of my family?

A) Family members who participate will be encouraged to provide their opinion on your rehabilitation and return to work progress and how it has affected them and the home environment. Participants will also be asked to complete a short questionnaire during the counselling sessions.

Q) You have indicated that key practitioners will be provided basic information following the sessions am I able to select only 1 practitioner? What if my selection is NOT my rehabilitation consultant?

A) YES, you may select only 1 key practitioner. If you do not select your Workplace Rehabilitation Consultant will be notified that you are participating but not provided with any further details. Session confidentiality will be maintained. You may however be encouraged to reveal significant issues to your Workplace Rehabilitation Consultant by the counsellor.

Q) Beckmann and Associates also manage my rehabilitation? How will you ensure separatism and confidentiality?

A) This is a separate and unique program. The counsellor should not be known to you, documentation and scheduling information is kept separate.

Q) May I have my legal representation/ advocate attend the counselling sessions?

A) NO – As this is not a program you are obliged to participate in but rather one which you and your family may benefit from, we feel such attendance would be counter productive and we will not carry out the sessions(s).
